I've decided to try out my green thumb by growing some tropical plants. Might be a bad idea, I know. I already have a couple other plants that so far are doing okay. But I love Plumerias, and think orchids are great too. I did some internet research, and away I went.
I bought a Plumeria start while in Hawaii a few months ago, and the seller made them sound really easy to grow. I'm not convinced, but since they are my favorite I have to give it a try. So I picked out my stick and brought 'er home.
I've set it up according to instructions, now I just sit and wait for spring, and hope it's developing some roots.
I've "rescued" a few phalaenopsis orchids that had finished blooming, were on clearance, and left to die. That is what started all this orchid business. Two of them seem to be doing well, one of which I am anxiously waiting to find out what color it's flowers are, as it no longer had a tag when I picked it up. It has sent up new flower stalks and is putting out buds now. Yay!
The third orchid I rescued was in poor shape when I bought it. All of it's leaves had become wilted. I was probably a little over-confident, but I told myself "I can bring it back". We'll see.
After I brought it home, I read there's a 50/50 chance it'll survive if there are no roots left. Great. I went ahead and cut off all the dead roots and ended up with this. Nothing.
50/50, glass half full, right? It is now in it's own little terrarium to encourage new root growth. I hope it got the message. Grow new roots!
